The writer, actor and producer discusses his new film 'Insane Like Me?'
Eric Roberts and Britt Bankhead
Apple TV and Amazon have a new supernatural thriller by the title of Insane Like Me?. The movie follows the adventures of Jake Morgan (Britt Bankhead), a combat veteran. Soon after returning home from duty, Jake becomes the primary suspect in the disappearance of his girlfriend Samantha (Grace Patterson). He is confined to a mental asylum for nine years and upon release begins an odyssey to discover what happened to her. During the course of that odyssey he encounters a bevy of vampires. The film also features Eric Roberts who plays a sheriff and the father of Samantha.
I posed some questions to Britt Bankhead who also co-wrote and co-produced Insane Like Me?.
Question: What was the impetus for the creation of the story for Insane Like Me? Is the film exploring any particular ideas or themes?
Britt Bankhead: I self-financed this project with my brother and wanted to make a fun horror film. I also wanted to infuse my real-life passion for cars and action movies into a genre I grew up loving.
Q. Was there anything particularly memorable or unexpected that happened during the course of filming?
Bankhead: The lead actress to play Samantha fell out days before shooting began. I had to recast quickly and casted Grace Patterson in the role. We just hit it off on days on set and began dating after we wrapped. We got married this last December and she is the best part for me about making this movie.
Q. What was it like to work with Eric Roberts and other members of the cast?
Bankhead: Eric is such a great actor and person overall! He is very gracious when you are filming with him and has decades of knowledge to share on set to make scenes better. I loved working with all the actors and hope to work with them again in the future.
Q. Is there anything in general you would like to tell audiences about Insane Like Me?
Bankhead: Insane Like Me? was just a fun film to make. I hope the audiences have as good of time watching it as we did making it.
Q. Would you like to share what your next projects are?
Bankhead: I’m doing a military drama based on a true story about my brother in the fall. I feel really blessed and grateful that everything fell into place to make this.
In addition to Apple TV and Amazon, 'Insane Like Me?' can also be viewed on such streaming services as Fandango at Home, Dish and DirecTV.
